Shahdana

Shahdana is an Argentinian dancer and musician whose artistic identity is strongly shaped by the relationship between Arabic music and Argentine tango. Before developing her Oriental dance career, she spent many years studying piano, composition and the musical traditions surrounding tango. This musical background gave her an unusually analytical approach to phrasing and rhythm within Raqs Sharqi. Shahdana later developed **Tango Oriental**, combining elements of Argentine tango with Oriental movement while retaining attention to the musical logic of both forms. International performances and teaching invitations introduced her approach to dancers beyond Argentina, including audiences in Asia. Her work demonstrates how culturally specific fusion can develop from substantial knowledge of both contributing traditions rather than from superficial visual combination.
